- Q. Who does the Health Department provide services for?
A. The health department provides preventive services primarily for Jackson county residents.
- Q. Can I see a physican at the health department?
A. We do not employ physicans or provide primary care. We can provide referrals to physicans in the area. We do provide some preventive services such as school physicals, immunizations, women's health services, STD testing and treatment, and genetic diagnosis and counseling. - Q. How can I find out when and where the health department will have community events?
A. These events are announced on our website, in our quarterly newsletter, and through local media. - Q. How can I join the health department team?
A. All positions are advertised on the JCHD website and local newspapers. In addition, we try to recruit minority applicants by sending job notices to local churches and minority organizations. For more information about job openings, call the human resources manager at (618) 684-3143, ext. 102. - Q. How does the health department decide what needs to focus on?
A. We monitor the rates of various diseases and conditions in our community. Every five years we work with community members to identify the health problems seen as a priority. We then work with community partners to address these needs. The process is known as IPLAN (Illinois Project for Local Assesment of Needs). - Q. How is the health department active in the community?
A. We provide preventive health services at various sites throughout the community. We work with community partners to improve health. We provide a leadership role in addressing community health problems. - Q. Is there a fee for services the health department provides?
A. Some services have fees. However, most of the clinical services are pro-rated based on the client's ability to pay. We also accept the medical card.
